The breed of cockapoos is exceptionally bright and gregarious. They combine the majestic and obedient traits of a poodle with the gentle demeanor of a cocker spaniel. Cockapoos also come in various colors, shapes, forms, and builds – but how big do cockapoos get?

How Big Does a Cockapoo Get

There are four different sizes of Cockapoos, from smallest to largest:

  1. teacup,
  2. toy,
  3. mini, and
  4. standard.

All of these variations have different average weights and heights. So, let us discuss all of them along with their basic characteristics.

Teacup

The smallest of all Cockapoos, a Teacup weighs less than six pounds when fully grown. Additionally, they won’t reach a height of more than eight inches. There isn’t much opportunity for a size difference between males and females because they are so little. As a result, both genders often have similar sizes. In addition, the average adult height of teacup Cockapoos is less than eight inches.

At eight weeks old, a teacup puppy will probably weigh less than a pound. Because they are not called by the parent Poodle’s size, teacup variations are distinctive in Cockapoos. They are so tiny that some may fit inside a teacup, thus the name “teacup.”

Toy

The teacup and toy Cockapoos are only one size apart. Toy cockapoos stand 8 to 10 inches tall and weigh between 6 and 12 pounds at maturity. Also, there is no discernible difference between males and females, similar to teacup Cockapoos.

Moreover, the Toy will weigh between one and two pounds at eight weeks old. They will have reached their full size when they weigh between 6 and 12 pounds and are between 8 and 12 months old. It is classified as a Mini if its height exceeds 10 inches. A puppy is considered a teacup if it is under eight inches tall. Moreover, they are an uncommon breed due to the small size ranges of Toy Cockapoos!

Mini

Mini Cockapoos weigh between 13 and 18 pounds when fully developed. The majority have short, knee-level growth and curly, flowing coats that give them a cuddly teddy bear look. The height of an adult micro cockapoo should fall between 11 and 14 inches.

Another name for minis is miniature cockapoos. When they are pups, they will weigh between four and six pounds and keep growing until they are around a year old. Minis offer more room for sex diversity because they are bigger than teacup and toy sizes. As a result, male Cockapoos are typically a few inches taller and a few pounds heavier than females.

The wider range of heights and weights they cover also means Mini Cockapoos are the most common and well-known size. Another reason they are particularly common is that they are produced by breeding a miniature Poodle with an English working Cocker Spaniel.

Standard

The Cocker Spaniel and standard Poodle are the parents of the common Cockapoo. The standard cockapoo size can range from 15 to 18 inches. Because they are the largest of all, they are also referred to as the Maxi.

Although some can reach 26 pounds, they typically weigh about 20 pounds. The average male standard Cockapoo weighs five pounds more than the average female. When a typical puppy is eight weeks old, it will weigh about 7 pounds. When fully grown, this Cockapoo is twice to thrice the size of a teacup.

Although standard cockapoos are equally as loving and affectionate as the lesser varieties, their bulk prevents them from becoming excellent lap dogs. Even though they can still attempt to climb up on you and cuddle you despite their size, they are not as good for apartments. The teacup, toy, or miniature may instead fit more comfortably on your lap. Standard cockapoos also need a lot more physical activity and mental challenge than teacups, toys, or miniatures.

Cockapoos Size: FAQ

Before we officially wrap this article, here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about how big cockapoos get:

How big are fully-grown Cockapoos?

Since there are different types of Cockapoos, each type has a different maximum growth size. For the smallest type (teacups), their full-grown weight is 6 pounds, 12 pounds for toy Cockapoos, 18 pounds for mini Cockapoos, and lastly, standard-sized Cockapoos can weigh more than 20 pounds. Their size can also depend on the nutrients they get from their food.

Is a Cockapoo a small or medium dog?

Cockapoos are bred by crossing a Cocker Spaniel with a Miniature Poodle. Thus resulting in a medium-sized Cockapoo that normally weighs around 15 pounds and stands tall about 14 inches.

Are Cockapoos good house dogs?

Since they are frequently well-liked by children, cockapoos make ideal family pets. They flourish in a family environment with lots of attention, socialization, and training. Although standard or maxi cockapoos may be less suitable to limited living areas than their smaller cousins, cockapoos thrive in flats.

In addition, cockapoos do not bark much, but they let you know when someone is at the door. They may be pretty bouncy and have a modest amount of activity, but they are also content to snuggle up in your lap or next to you on the couch. They usually exercise for roughly 15 minutes a day, which may be accomplished by playing in the backyard or taking a fast stroll around the block.

How long do Cockapoos live on average?

Understanding the parent breeds’ life spans can help you estimate and comprehend the cockapoo’s lifespan.

The poodle’s size affects how long he lives. Toy and tiny poodles have a lifespan of 14 to 14.5 years, compared to the standard poodle’s 11 to 12 years. In contrast, the average lifetime of a cocker spaniel is between 11 and 12 years. Therefore, ordinary and small cockapoos have 14 to 18 years of life expectancy.

Remember that the lifetime of the cockapoo can be impacted by many variables in addition to the breed’s size. According to Wallis, et al. (2011), a dog’s lifespan and health can be affected by its environment, experiences (like if they experienced a traumatic event, and health.

To summarize, the answers to how big cockapoos get vary for each type. Some are smaller (like the teacups), and some appear bigger (like the standards). Moreover, a cockapoo’s size is also affected by different factors such as diet, their parent’s genetics, and overall health. These sizes can also affect the cost of Cockapoos.
