The American Kennel Club announced last week the dog breeds most often registered with them in the United States of America and has now also released the top 5 of the most popular dogs in some particular cities: New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago & Boston.

New York’s top dog breeds
French Bulldogs took the Big Apple’s lead last year and several breeds not appearing in this top 5 do seem to be packed and regrouped in some specific neighbourhoods. For example, many Yorkshire Terriers have been registered in Riverdale, many Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in the trendy Upper East Side and loads of Italian Greyhounds in Washington Heights.

Los Angeles’ most popular breeds
Los Angeles has been a precursor in that now worldwide surge of both the Bulldog and the French Bulldog. These two breeds have been loved by hundreds over the last years and it is not surprising to see them trust the first and second spots.

Atlanta’s most cherished dogs
It does look like the opposite of LA’s top five as here the Retrievers are leading the group and Bulldogs close this top five’s lid. Both the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Boxer have been knocked out from the top but can make a happy return in the next couple of years.

Boston’s most registered dog breeds
This is a pretty common top five filled with the usual suspects in Boston’s dogosphere however the biggest news here is not in the top five but in the Siberian Husky dogs rising and behind just behind in 6th position. Perhaps the snow boosted Huskies’ reputation?

Chicago’s most loved breeds
A lot of things changes here in Chi-Town’s top dog breeds as the city’s favourite, the German Shepherd, has been knocked out of its first spot by both Retrievers: the Labrador and the Golden. It seems like the quietness and lovely kind nature of the Retrievers have seduced herds of dog owners.
