Perpetual Whelping Chart

Essential for all dog owners and dog breeders, this perpetual whelping chart will help you have an accurate idea of when a litter may be expected after your bitch has been bred. On average, there are 63 days in between the mating and the delivery of the puppies.

Just like with humans, the due date is approximative. You want to be ready to welcome an early litter at least 10 days ahead as puppies can arrive as early as 58 days after the copulation happened, and they still have a great survival chance! Very rarely, you may have a late litter of 7 to 10 days after the due date, but it tends to be earlier than later.

The chart below is simple, locate the right month of when the breeding happened, go to the right day, and the column on the right gives you the estimate due date. For example, a bitch mated on October 5 should give birth on or around December 7.

In a leap year, prior to March 1, subtract one day from the estimated whelping date; e.g. a bitch bred January 11 will be due to whelp March 14.
