The world’s biggest and largest dog show returns this weekend March 10-13, as entrants compete to take the Crufts’ Best In Show crown from last year’s champion Scottish Terrier Knopa. And this year is the competition’s 125th anniversary! Yay!

As a starter, here are some facts you probably did not know about Crufts!

In 1891, Charles Cruft started out with 2,437 entrants. Today between 22,000 and 24,000 dogs from across the world take part in the four day competition. Last year dogs from 46 countries entered. This year promises to be the biggest and best show to celebrate 125 years – or 875 in dog years – of Crufts.

The breeds that will be judged are: hound, gundog, terrier, working, toy, utility and pastoral dogs.

Crufts 2016 – Best In Show

A Westie has won Crufts best in show for the first time in 26 years, the last winning the accolade in 1990.

CH BURNEZE GEORDIE GIRL
West Highland White Terrier
Owner: MISS M & MRS A BURNS

The dog known as Devon was brought to Crufts by her handler and owner Marie Burns who said it was her first time at the competition.

Speaking after being given the top spot Miss Burns said: “Am I dreaming? This is absolutely amazing, I can’t believe it and can’t find words to describe how I feel.

“Thanks to everyone who made it happen.”

The best in show competitors were looking to steal the title from reigning champion Scottish Terrier Knopa who was awarded best in show last year.
